🎲 New $360M Hollywood Casino Set to Open in Aurora in June

Driving the news: Aurora’s long-awaited new Hollywood Casino is set to open June 24, marking a major shift from its longtime riverfront location to a larger, modern complex.

Details:

  • The $360 million casino is located near I-88 and the Chicago Premium Outlets.

  • It features a 226-room hotel, sports betting, a spa, and an event center.

  • The gaming floor will include 1,200+ table games and machines.

  • Restaurants from celebrity chefs Stephanie Izard and Giada De Laurentiis are part of the lineup.

  • The facility is expected to employ around 700 workers.

Why it matters: The new casino represents a major economic boost for Aurora, bringing jobs, tourism, and increased tax revenue, while moving the city’s gaming industry into a more competitive, high-traffic location.

The big picture: Illinois changed its casino laws in 2019, allowing land-based casinos instead of riverboats.

That shift opened the door for projects like this, as older river casinos struggled to compete with newer, larger venues.

Between the lines: The project relied on public support, including land contributions and financing from the city, sparking debate over whether taxpayer assistance was necessary for a profitable operator.

What’s next: The casino still needs final approval from the Illinois Gaming Board, but officials say it’s on track to open on schedule this summer.
