News

🚧 $4.4M Plan to Upgrade Dozens of Streets in Aurora Heads to Council

Driving the news: Aurora is preparing a $4.4 million street resurfacing project that will cover nearly 22 lane miles of roads on the city’s East Side.

Details:

  • The project will resurface 50+ streets across multiple wards.

  • Work is expected to begin in May and wrap up by September.

  • Each street will see about 8–10 weeks of construction activity.

  • The contract is expected to go to Schroeder Asphalt Services, the lowest bidder.

Why it matters: The upgrades aim to extend the life of local roads, improve driving conditions, and maintain critical infrastructure in growing neighborhoods—while minimizing long-term repair costs.

The big picture: This is just part of a larger plan. Aurora expects to resurface 44 total miles of streets across two major projects this year, part of ongoing maintenance for the city’s 1,300 lane miles of roads.

Between the lines: With road surfaces typically lasting 20–25 years, regular resurfacing is key to avoiding more costly full rebuilds down the line.

What’s next: The proposal is set for final approval by the City Council next week and is expected to pass quickly as a routine item.

The bottom line: Aurora is investing millions to keep its roads in shape, targeting dozens of neighborhoods with improvements set to roll out this summer.
