🐢 Hidden Oaks Nature Center to Reopen This Weekend

Driving the news: Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Bolingbrook is reopening to the public on Saturday, May 3, after more than a year of renovations. A free community celebration will be held from noon to 4 p.m.

Details:

  • The center, located at 419 Trout Farm Road, has undergone a $2 million renovation

  • The reopening event will feature tree climbing, birds of prey, chainsaw carving, touch-a-truck, crafts, and more

  • New exhibits include an interactive “Journey of an Acorn” station, a play corner for young kids, a shade pergola, and an indoor birdwatching deck

  • The redesign includes multilingual welcome signage to reflect the diversity of the community

  • Beloved resident animals like Maxine the tortoise and Ramen the corn snake are still part of the experience in upgraded habitats

Why it matters: The renovations aim to create a more inclusive, welcoming space that engages visitors through storytelling, nature play, and hands-on learning, all while preserving the charm of the original center.

The big picture: The project kept the existing footprint intact while improving the layout and exhibit quality. The goal was to enhance the visitor experience without losing the center’s most beloved elements.

What’s next: After the reopening event, Hidden Oaks Nature Center will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The bottom line: Hidden Oaks is back and better than ever, offering an inviting space where nature, learning, and community come together.
