🚁 Naperville’s Heroes and Helicopters Event Soars for a Fourth Year
Driving the news: Families braved the summer heat to attend Naperville’s fourth annual Heroes and Helicopters event at Frontier Park, where they got a close-up look at first responders, emergency vehicles, and a helicopter from Superior Air Med.
Details:
The event, organized by State Representative Janet Yang Rohr and Senator Laura Ellman, showcased a variety of first responders, nonprofit organizations, and community vendors.
The highlight was the EC135 helicopter from Superior Air Med, which landed at the park and gave attendees a rare opportunity to explore the aircraft.
Kids had the chance to climb into fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles, engaging with first responders and learning more about their work.
Senator Laura Ellman emphasized the event’s interactive nature, noting the excitement for kids to "pretend to drive" the various vehicles and see both modern and classic equipment up close.
Why it matters: Heroes and Helicopters not only celebrates first responders but also offers a unique opportunity for families to engage with essential services and gain insight into the community's emergency response systems.
The big picture: The event, which has grown steadily each year, is a fun and educational way for residents to bid farewell to summer and kick off the school year. Representative Yang Rohr is confident the event will continue to grow, with plans for a fifth year already in the works.
What’s next: The success and growing interest in the event make it a staple for the community, offering valuable exposure to local first responders and a chance for families to connect with the services that keep them safe.
The bottom line: Heroes and Helicopters continues to be a beloved tradition, combining education, fun, and community spirit in one unforgettable event.
