Driving the news: Naperville’s Block 59 will debut a 60-by-120-foot outdoor ice skating rink on Nov. 20, staying through Jan. 18. The rink is designed to offer a festive winter activity for families and residents, with special events like Skate with Santa and Princess Skate.

• Location: 7,200-square-foot green space between The Cheesecake Factory and Yard House

• Operator: Magic Ice USA

• Tickets: $14 adults; $12 for kids 12 & under, seniors, nurses, teachers, first responders, and military

• Skate rentals: $5; skate buddies for beginners: $10

• Grand Opening: Free skate day on Nov. 20 (limited slots)

• Special Events: Skate with Santa (Dec. 4, 14, 21); Princess Skate (Jan. 10)

• Hours:

  • Nov. 20–Jan. 4: Sun–Thu 10 a.m.–9 p.m., Fri–Sat 10 a.m.–11 p.m.

  • Jan. 5–Jan. 18: Mon–Thu 4 p.m.–9 p.m., Fri–Sat 10 a.m.–10 p.m., Sun 10 a.m.–8 p.m.
