Details: The rankings were based on FBI crime data from 859 cities, specifically looking at murder and property crime rates per 100,000 residents.

• Illinois standouts: Arlington Heights (No. 12), Buffalo Grove (No. 18), and Palatine (No. 25) also made the list.

• Top spot: Johns Creek, Georgia, was ranked the safest city in the country.

Why it matters: The recognition boosts Naperville’s appeal for families, professionals, and businesses looking for a secure and community-focused place to live. Safety ranks high on the list for people choosing where to settle — and this puts Naperville firmly on their radar.

The big picture: Naperville wasn’t just recognized for safety. In other recent rankings from U.S. News & World Report:

• It’s the No. 3 best place to live in Illinois, trailing only Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove.

• It took No. 21 among best medium-sized U.S. cities to live in.

• It also landed at No. 76 overall on the national list of best places to live.
